Safety should be the key emphasis in most driving schools be it regular driving, motorcycling, racecar drive or commercial driving. Classroom discussions should provide safety tips and strategies to both drive defensively as well as respond accurately in dangerous or potentially dangerous driving situations.

Many driving programs are offered through high school programs at a reduced rate. The rate is lower than many private driving schools simply because the school is able to book a block of hours or group of instructors over a contract period. In some schools the coursework may count towards additional credits or options.

Typically the driving school will provide several practice examinations during class sessions to allow students to become comfortable with the driving exam written component. They should allow students to complete the test just how it would be done at the Department of Motor Vehicles office, which in most areas will be by computer.
