Consider giving your child the opportunity to attend a local college or high school for some specific courses you simply are not able to offer at home. These may be the advanced electives that kids love such as home economics, shop, public speaking or other courses. Most colleges and high schools will allow kids to come in for these electives.

Be prepared to have your child complete proficiency examinations at specific stages in their homeschooling process if required in your state. Teach children how to write an exam as well as ensure they have completed the learning areas that will be tested. Information on the tests is available in all states for parents.

Well before your homeschooled child is getting close to completing high school, contact the college they wish to attend and talk to a guidance counselor regarding any tests or specific subject materials they will need as prerequisites. Doing this early in the high school years will ensure that there are no disappointments when your child applies to the college.
