Be prepared to have your child complete proficiency examinations at specific stages in their homeschooling process if required in your state. Teach children how to write an exam as well as ensure they have completed the learning areas that will be tested. Information on the tests is available in all states for parents.

Well before your homeschooled child is getting close to completing high school, contact the college they wish to attend and talk to a guidance counselor regarding any tests or specific subject materials they will need as prerequisites. Doing this early in the high school years will ensure that there are no disappointments when your child applies to the college.

Often, public schools are resources for the homeschooling parent. They often do provide a wide range of services and tools that can help a parent to do more for their child and to help them to find success in the process. Find out what your public schools can offer to you, too.
