Often photography students complete an art degree or related program to allow them to use their interest in photography combined with a college or university education. These students may also have option to working with a variety of instructors and professionals throughout their training.

It is also possible to complete photography training through books and CD programs. These are often a very low cost training program and although they don't offer in person support and attention but they do typically have lots of information and graphics.

Camera maintenance, selection and selection of lenses and other equipment is also key in photography classes. Students should have the ability to work with different types of equipment to learn what special effects can be created though lighting, special filters and the use of a particular lens.
