Classes are private, so you get plenty of attention and you work at your own pace. Or you can take classes with a friend or 2 for semi-private lessons. Many sewing schools offer classes where you make a skirt in about 4 or 5 classes, but you're not learning the fundamentals to carry out projects on your own, as large classes don't provide enough one on one attention. Beginner Sewing 101 Start with the basics, you will learn how to use the sewing machine and become familiar with the tools of the trade. Your first project will be a skirt and the finished product will be beautiful and professionally constructed. Draping 101 Apparel Design, learn the art of draping in 3 dimensional form. This class is an introduction to basic draping principles. You will study with Laura McCracken, a former designer, stylist and weaver. Laura is reaching those who love the world of sewing and design with her Sew New York classes. She is also a former school teacher who was educated at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons School of Design. Her skills, patience and craftsmanship for this study spans over 25 years.
